Description

Kakimori's metal nib reinvents the dip pen. Instead of a split nib, it has fine grooves cut around the tip that hold ink, so a single dip writes about a whole postcard. Change the angle to go from delicate fine lines to bold, expressive strokes.

Made from solid brass, it develops a warm patina the more you use it. Designed by Yuto Yamazaki and handmade in Japan.

How to use

  • Dip the nib in ink and write at an angle of 45° or less.
  • If the ink gets faint, rotate the nib slightly to draw more ink from the grooves.
  • Ink may flow slowly at first because of a protective coating, and it gets smoother after a few rinses and dips.

Care

  • Rinse often while writing so ink doesn't dry in the grooves. Use a soft toothbrush for stubborn ink.
  • Dry it completely after use, since brass can discolor with moisture. Remove it from the holder when you're done.
  • If you use soap, choose a pH-neutral one.

Details

  • Solid brass, about 30 mm long × 6 mm wide, 4 g
  • Fits standard nib holders, including the Kakimori Nib Holder (sold separately)
  • Pairs well with Kakimori pigment ink
